Mottarone is the mountain between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta; with an altitude of 1491 metres, the view from the top is stunning, taking in the Po Plain, Monte Rosa, Monte Viso and seven lakes.
You can reach the top of Mottarone easily by taking the cableway that leaves from the Lido of Carciano, just outside Stresa. The cable car makes a stop at the village of Alpino, where the famous Alpinia Botanic Garden is located.
Mottarone offers a range of walking and cycling trails.
